Play dough project to do with your kids!

In this time where many of us are working from home while our kids are out of school, it is important to be intentional about the time we spend with our children. They may not understand why you’re home but not focusing on them for the majority of the day. They may be feeling isolated or lonely without seeing their school friends or other playmates. This is why we need to be sure to set aside time to unplug and truly connect with our children; not just being in the same space at the same time, but engaging with them and working together.

Spending dedicated time together as a family is so important. Taking time to focus exclusively on your kids lets them know that you’re there for them. That no matter what, you will always make time for them and support them.

This helps them to feel safe, secure, and cared for. Working together with your kids towards a common goal encourages communication. It lays the foundation for open conversations in the future. Working on a project together also fosters a sense of team spirit and camaraderie. It lets your kids know that you are a team and you can solve problems together. When you are faced with a difficult situation as a family in the future, you can look at is a project and break it down together to work through it.

Making play dough together is a great start! What will you do next? Be sure to make the decision together with your kids, do the research, and pick the project together. Perhaps you can delegate some responsibility to your child in this process. Once you’ve picked the project together as a family, maybe you have your child make a list of all the supplies and materials you’ll need, and determine what you will need to acquire and what you already have. Then you can take their list of needed items and order them while they look on.
